I'd just like to have a pair of ordered lists in my page, but start the numbering of the second list where the first one finished. Something like: 1. Do stuff Here's a paragraph 3. Do stuff I've seen that the counter-reset and counter-increment CSS properties should be able to achieve this, but I can't get it working. Here's my code.
When I built my template, I created a style called Chapter #. I realized that I should have used one of the Heading styles, so I used Heading 9 for the chapter number.
My chapter is set up as follows:Heading 1 - used for section heading (1 Title of section)Heading 2 - 1st sub-section level (1.1 Sub-section title)Heading 3 - 2nd sub-section level (1.1.1 Sub-section title)The figures are in the section under Heading 3. When I start a new section using Heading 1 and try to continue numbering, that's when it starts over again at Figure 1.1 instead of going to Figure 1.10. When applying numbered heading styles to text, Word is strict about the hierarchy, meaning that numbering may be incorrect if you omit levels. Is there a reason you can't use Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 if all you need is three levels? If numbering appears to be broken, you had better set it up again from the start. Click in the first Heading 1 paragraph of your document and click Home tab Multilevel List Define New Multilevel List (the 'define new' part is misleading, because youshould use it even when you are editing an existing list). Hi Suzanne -Thank you for the quick response. At the risk of looking completely stupid, do I need to define a new multilevel list strictly for captions?
I didn't think I did and the figure numbers work fine as long as all the figures are in the same section within achapter. When I go to another section in the same chapter they start renumbering at, say, 3.1.I am using just the chapter number and a sequential number for the figures.
I am not using the section numbers in the caption numbering at all.So, in Chapter 3 (I'm using Heading 9 for the chapter number), Section 2 (I'm using Heading 1 for the section number), I have 8 figures. The numbering was perfect.3.1, 3.2, etc. When I got to Chapter 3, Section 3, the numbering started again at 3.1.I have read and reread Shauna Kelly's information and I thought I was following it correctly. Obviously, I'm missing something. Thanks so much for the help.Paula.
The captions are not part of the multilevel headings; the captions merelyreference the heading numbers. After you have set up numbering properly, you just add captions the usual way via References tab Insert Caption. Start with adding the heading numbering (as I explained in a previous post in this thread); read moreat. Then go to References Insert Caption. Add the desired heading level by clicking the Numbering button in the Caption dialog box (this step you only have to do once). If you are in fact running Word on a Macintosh, you should be asking in a MacWord forum.
Just let us know, and either Suzanne or myself can move the entire thread to the appropriate forum. Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP Volunteer Moderator Note that MVPs do not work for Microsoft MVP program information:.
Question about the Sony numbering system, the last time I upgraded from my 3.3mp Cybershot, to the 5.1mp Cybershot, I ran into the problem of duplicate file names (numbers). Is there a way to change the number system on the H5? I don't want to have to set up duplicate folders for the same themed photos with a new camera. If I use the memory stick from an old camera with a few pics on it, will the new camera continue number sequence from existing files? I don't even have the H5 yet (on order) but worry about these things.Kevin. I don't want to have to set upduplicate folders for the same themed photos with a new camera. IfI use the memory stick from an old camera with a few pics on it,will the new camera continue number sequence from existing files? Idon't even have the H5 yet (on order) but worry about these things.KevinYou can use a program such as Irfanview to batch rename your existing pictures. Or rename all the pics taken with the H5.R2. Yes, I have found that if you put a file onto a memory stick and the file has a higher number than the actual number of photos you have taken with your new camera, then the camera (H5, in my case) will indeed continue the numbering sequence from the higher numbered file.
This might be what you would prefer, as it would avoid duplicated numbers, providing you never take any more photos with your old camera. The new camera will not drop back to its old number sequence when you delete the files from the memory stick, but continue on the new, higher number sequence. In my case, this was an undesirable effect - I wanted my newer Sony camera to go through its normal sequence of numbers from DSC00001 upwards. To overcome the problem that I had caused myself when I placed a high numbered file from my older Sony camera onto the memory stick in my new camera, I went through the following procedure with the new camera:I renamed one of my Sony photo files to DSC09999.JPG and copied it to the memory stick in the camera. The camera, recognising it as a higher file number than its previous highest file number, adopted 09999 as the current sequence number. I took a photo, which the camera named DSC00001.JPG.
(As we all know, and complain about, the sequence wraps round from 09999 to 00001 rather than going to 10000.)I then renamed the DSC00001.JPG to 1 higher than the highest number file I had actually taken with my new camera, e.g. Subsequent photos I took were then named by the camera as DSC00276.JPG, DSC00277.JPG etc. That is, the sequence was restored to what it would have been if I had not upset it by putting that higher numbered file onto the memory stick.During the above procedure, I turned my camera off and on again at each step.

I don't know whether it was strictly necessary, but the recognition by the camera of a higher numbered file might take place during a power-up initialisation. That you want to avoid duplicate file numbers is understandable, but if you exceed the file number DSC09999.JPG with your new camera, you will again face the problem of duplicates, this time because of the sequence wrapping that I mentioned above. I tackled the problem for my old camera by using batch renaming of my files, after I passed DSC09999.JPG, to the format DSC1nnnn.JPG. That is, I effected the sequence that Sony should have done anyway.
For my new camera, I have been using batch renaming from the very first photo to create the sequence DSC50001.JPG upwards. In this way, I have no duplicated file names between my old and new cameras. While I was fixing the sequence number problem, I wondered whether I could force the camera to continue the DSC5nnnn numbering sequence by loading a file of that name onto the memory stick. Unfortunately, I found that the camera ignores the digit after the 'DSC' prefix (or treats it as a '0').
So, if I had taken, for example, 100 photos and I placed a file named DSC50123.JPG onto the memory stick, the next photo would be named DSC00124.JPG, not DSC50124.JPG as I had hoped. I use a Freeware product called Rename. I tried IrFanView, I use it for other purposes and did not like the results. With Rename I can leave the original name intact and insert the camera name in 1 or thousands of files. For instance DSC-707-00001.jpg or DSC-H5-00001. I renamed my existing photos, about 30,000 in less than 30 minutes. Since I continue to use 3 Sony cameras I rename the files as I down load them. You can find Rename at-SargeOfficial 'AAK Certified' H Series Duck Club Member.Miranda,Pentax K2-K1000,Sony FD-71-707-H5Coming soon my web albums at.
